Look Out for Our Planet and take the Planet Pledge
At Reading and Leeds in 2025 we are encouraging all festival goers to Look Out for Our Planet and take the Planet Pledge. This means you are joining the festival in our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of the festival.
What you can do:
Tent Guide
Check out our handy tent guide and get ahead on one of the festival essentials this year. Looking to save some money? The guide has some great options on where you can borrow a tent.
Please also make sure to take your tent home with you at the end of the festival, keep it safe and reuse it at future festival adventures!
Green travel to the festival!
Travelling to the festival makes up at least 80% of a festival’s carbon footprint (Source: The Show Must Go On Report, 2020 . To help reduce the travel carbon footprint, you could travel by lower carbon forms of travel such as coach, train with direct shuttle buses to the festival, or carshare to help reduce this.
Reading and Leeds have amazing green travel options available. Check out Big Green Coach.
You can also get the train to local stations and then use the shuttle bus service which will get you into the heart of the action.
Wanting to drive? Why not fill up all your seats in the car and give fellow festivalgoers a lift through Liftshare. Check this out if you are looking for a lift also!
Stay in our Meadow campsite!
The Meadow (Eco Campsite) is for like-minded people who want to make a difference: You live life with the planet in mind, and want to stay in a clean, green field for a festival you’ll remember.
To stay in The Meadow every guest signs up to the following principles:
- All guests agree to respect their fellow campers: Be inclusive and curious, talk about what is important to you, and enjoy the festival together.
- All guests agree to respect the environment by protecting biodiversity and avoiding littering: Separate your recyclable materials, use the toilets provided, and don’t cause excess waste.
- All guests agree to leave the campsite exactly as they found it: Everyone here has joined the call, take your tent home, and show the way forward.
Climate Live will be running eco-themed workshops and activities in the Meadow, from yoga to crocheting to clothing swap shops.
Thrift your fit
For a unique festival outfit, look at the clothing you already have in your wardrobe or check out second hand clothing through local charity shops or online platforms and stand out from the crowd with an outfit unique to you!
Make sure to use our three-bin system
We have a three-bin system across the festival which means every recycling point in the campsites and main arena will be formed by 3 bins – Cans & Bottles, Food & Food Packaging, including paper cups, and Absolutely Everything Else. By using the bins correctly, you will help make sure that waste is properly recycled and disposed of.
Find out how you can get involved in climate action!
This year we are joined by some amazing organisations at Reading and Leeds who are actively engaging the public with environmental message and climate change action.
Climate Live is a youth-led charity who organise concerts and festival campaigns to harness the power of music to engage a new audience in the climate movement.
Climate Live will be on the AUX stage with a range of talks and panels. Visit the stall and get free temporary tattoos and bio-glitter, and get creative at their t-shirt printing workshop (where they can print climate justice messaging on t-shirts sustainably sourced from charity shops).
No Music on a Dead Planet will be back at the festival, putting action on climate at the top of the agenda for music. Check out the stall in the main arena!
Every Can Counts will be back this year encouraging everyone to recycle empty cans and give them a new home. Cans are made from endlessly recyclable aluminium, so please make sure that you recycle yours! Keep an eye out for the letters can cage near the Arena Entrance too, and help us fill it up!
Eat a plant-based meal
There will be lots of amazing vegetarian and plant-based food options available, check out the app for more details of the food vendors.
Our new Reading Refuel area will be showcasing vendors who source their food sustainably and will be powered by 100% renewable energy.
What the festival is doing:
Powering the festival
The show is powered by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) which is 100% fossil-fuel free
Cup deposit
We operate a deposit return scheme in the arena that helps collect a clean stream of paper cups, aluminium cans, and PET bottles, increasing recycling. Each item has a 10p return available.
Reducing waste and plastic
In 2024, (87% of festival waste was recycled or composted)
We are reducing single use plastic across the festival, and soft drinks and water are served in cans. All food packaging and cutlery is 100% compostable.
In the campsites, we provide free recycling bags and we run our Recycle to Win initiative, where festivalgoers who are actively recycling and keeping tidy camps can win some amazing prizes like a side of stage experience, merch, and tickets to next year’s festival.
We are working with Material Focus to provide vape disposal across the site. Look out for the bright pink tubes at the recycling points.
